Student exhibition: Finding your thread with Kerri Hollingsworth

"Connection. Such a simple word, yet something so deeply woven into who we are as humans.

In a world that seems to move faster with every passing day, I wonder how often we give ourselves the space to slow down, to feel, to play, to recognise the things that truly speak to us.

Threads of Connection began as an invitation to explore creativity through fibres, textures, colours and materials. But beneath the techniques and the making was something I hoped would become much more meaningful. An opportunity to reconnect with ourselves, to trust our instincts, and to discover what might emerge when we loosen our grip on expectations and perfection.

Throughout the course, we explored the idea that creativity doesn't need to follow a predetermined path. That we don't need to know what something will become before we begin. That the messy middle, the uncertainty, the moments when things don't quite make sense, are not signs that we're doing something wrong. They're part of the making.

I often reminded the students that if they didn't like what they were creating, perhaps it simply wasn't finished yet.

Layer by layer, fibre by fibre, we give ourselves permission to keep exploring.

The artists represented in this exhibition bring their own experiences, skills, curiosities and ways of seeing the world. Each has followed their own thread, allowing something uniquely theirs to take shape.

As you move through these pages, I invite you to look beyond the finished pieces. To consider the hands that made them, the choices that were felt rather than planned, the stories and connections that may be woven within.

And perhaps, somewhere amongst these beautiful expressions of individuality, you'll recognise a little something of yourself.
