Explore fabric, freedom and quilts!

Join artist Amanda Nadig to rediscover what’s possible when you return to the rhythm of making by hand.

In this new Take Two course, Amanda Nadig invites you to explore quiltmaking as a practice of play, experimentation, and discovery. Guided by her intuitive approach, you’ll learn to work improvisationally with fabric – repurposing old clothes, scraps, and everyday materials to create quilts that are uniquely your own.

Amanda will show you how to embrace chance, let surprises guide your decisions, and develop a consistent hand-stitching practice that grounds your creativity and feels good. Through exercises in texture, colour, and composition, you’ll discover the joy of making without fear of mistakes and the freedom that comes from using what’s at hand.

By the end of the course, you’ll have built a stronger connection to your materials, a deeper trust in your instincts, and a more playful, resilient approach to quiltmaking — all while creating pieces that are rich with personal meaning and artistic exploration.

I think quilting is just the way I am free, but for my practice, it has to be more painterly, improvisational – full of chance, surprises, and experimentation.

- Amanda Nadig

Amanda is a textile artist and educator whose work celebrates the intimacy of hand quilting and the poetry found in everyday materials. Working with repurposed cloth, she pieces together fragments of fabric and memory to create compositions that feel both familiar and deeply personal. Her quilts carry a quiet strength – textured surfaces that speak of time, touch, and the beauty of imperfection.

Rooted in rhythm and reflection, Amanda’s practice unfolds as a slow, meditative conversation between maker and material. Through the repetition of hand stitching, she explores how creative consistency can ground us and open space for intuition and discovery.

In her teaching, Amanda invites students to work with what they have, trust their instincts, and embrace the imperfect marks of the hand. She encourages a gentler, more sustainable approach to quiltmaking – one that values connection, presence, and the quiet satisfaction of making something honest and whole.
