Form to Freedom was built for exactly this.
Along the way, you'll learn the techniques behind Harriet's unique sculptural objects and woven lighting, the same ethical practice she's sustained as a professional artist for over 16 years.
This course is the equivalent of six live workshops. Ready to push your work into another dimension?
Whether you’re an experienced artist or a beginner, Form to Freedom shows you ways to turn your natural materials into unique fibre art that's worth exhibiting.

The work changes when you ask more of it
Form to Freedom played a pivotal role in unveiling my visual language by providing a structured yet liberating approach to artistic expression. The course empowered me to explore diverse forms and techniques, encouraging experimentation and pushing boundaries.
This course has made an exponential difference to my work. In addition to teaching the techniques, each module showcases some of the endless possibilities of how they could be used. Although I already knew most of the techniques, I was having difficulty expanding on that knowledge. I am now producing finished work that I am proud of.
I have been a fibre artist/weaver for more than 30 years but have learnt so many new skills and gained additional fascinating and inspiring knowledge from this course. It's the best online content I have found in a long time.
The Form to Freedom course is transformative. It has reinvigorated my creative process by opening up ideas and possibilities whilst adding many new tools to my toolbox. I can highly recommend this invaluable resource, no matter the level of experience. With lifetime access, this is a course that keeps on giving.
I started out with minimal knowledge of basketry, plants and foraging – and no idea where the course would lead me. Three months on, I'm in love with looping, twining and coiling; I'm surrounded by cordage, bunches of leaves and grasses; I've moved into a little studio space. Every walk presents new inspiration and I see shapes and forms all around me that I didn't see before.
I was a total beginner when I started this program. Yet weaving spoke to me in a way that no other form of creativity has. Now 4 years on, I have my own studio filled with forage and feathers and found objects. Most of my pieces are sculptural and experimental. For the first time in my life, I now think of myself as an artist.
Harriet Goodall is one of Australia’s most loved fibre artists. Her signature online course Form to Freedom has been created to expand what traditional basketry can be.
Inside her private studio, Harriet promises to free your mind to the endless sculptural possibilities that ancient weaving techniques provide when combined with contemporary basketry.
Over eight weeks, you’ll embark on a deep dive into working with plants, fibres, and dyeing. Along the way, you’ll uncover the ethical basketry techniques behind Harriet’s unique sculptural objects and woven lighting, and learn how they’ve sustained her professional art practice for over 16 years.
The trips I make foraging are some of my happiest moments – I feel like I’m on a treasure hunt. Like I am doing something worthwhile, ethical, environmentally friendly and culturally rich.
- HARRIET GOODALL
Harriet's style of teaching encourages you to go past the instructions and seek your own voice. She is a great teacher and so generous with her knowledge. I have taken other weaving and basketry workshops, but this course was by far the best one. Harriet was so encouraging and her instructions were not only clear but she included instructions for a left-handed person. This is rare. You will not be disappointed.
I absolutely loved every aspect of this course! From the very professional technical presentation to the very well delivered, easy to comprehend and detailed teachings. Harriet was most generous with sharing her knowledge and experience and went way beyond what was required. Many new doors have opened for me and I'm very grateful for it.
This course was my first experience with weaving. Harriet’s spirituality and passion nurtures all learning styles and encourages any level of weaving. Her calm demeanor, and genuine desire to share her expertise expanded my use of art for self-healing. If you are ready to embark on a creatively spiritual journey, you don’t have to leave the comfort of your own home, sign up for Form to Freedom!
This course has given me a deeper understanding of the incredible beauty and creativity of nature and its role as a universal teacher. Harriet's clear, concise lessons and her understanding of ancient methods of weaving and respect for the earth are a gift to all her students. I recommend this course to everyone!
I enjoyed every minute of the course, I felt as though I was in the studio with Harriet! It was my first online course and I was amazed by the quality of the film work (un grand bravo to the FATT team!). I really appreciated that I could do the course at my own pace and lifetime access is highly valuable!
Harriet is a warm and generous teacher and I felt supported – like every step was progress. Her ongoing involvement in the Facebook group, long after her commitment was complete, highlights this further. And she knows her stuff and produces inspiring pieces.
Bend, twist and weave your inspiration into any form you can imagine.
It took years of trial, error, mentoring, and travel to faraway workshops for Harriet to accumulate her knowledge, and develop her practice. Form to Freedom brings it all together, and is the equivalent of at least half a dozen individual workshops.

-
Module one: Making an amulet
We start by acknowledging First Nations people as the traditional knowledge keepers.
In this module, Harriet teaches you to make cordage, an ancient basketry fundamental, which you can then use to create a personal amulet or talisman to bring you good luck while taking the class.
This simple skill keeps your hands busy while listening to Harriet guiding you through other modules, or during TV shows, car journeys, train and plane trips. -
Module two: Harvesting plants for weaving
The wonderful thing about basket making is that you don’t need a lot of expensive equipment to get started.
Take a walk in nature with Harriet to learn about the ethics of harvesting and collecting plant materials from your garden, bush, or surrounding streetscape and how to prepare, dry, and store those materials to make them suitable for weaving.
A comprehensive guide to purchasing materials with a supplier list is also included. -
Module three: Pods, nests and cocoons
Now you know what plant materials are suitable for weaving and how to prepare them, it’s time to get weaving!
Finding inspiration from nature, and using the popular technique of random weaving, Harriet walks you through two different sculptural forms.
In this module, you’ll learn the fundamental techniques of random or free-form weaving, so you can create woven sculptures that will hold their form in whatever shape you want. -
Module four: In the loop
Knotless netting or looping is used by contemporary artists worldwide to create lace-like weaving and is one of Harriet’s favourite techniques to use in her fibre sculpture and lighting.
In this module, Harriet teaches you three different looping stitches using waxed linen and hemp, so you can get excited by creating contrast through the opacity and transparency this technique provides. -
Module five: Looping for structure
If you’re looking to get more intentional and sculptural with your new looping skills, then this module is for you.
You’re now going to loosen up and have fun with different looping techniques as Harriet shares how to use them in sculptural ways incorporating sticks and stones, vines and copper wire.
In this module, you’ll learn various ways to create contrasting patterns and textures, cover objects completely and even mimic nature with random looping techniques. -
Module six: Coiling with plants and clay
It’s time to start mixing your media.
In this module, Harriet shows you how you can use the traditional basketry technique known as coiling to use purchased or leafy materials from the garden and mix them with ceramics. Think of it as a collaboration between coiling and clay!
Start by learning a traditional basket weavers buttonhole stitch (taught to Harriet by Indigenous Australian women she has worked with), before you move on to a spiral and V stitch. You’ll learn how to start and finish a basket and to coil onto clay. -
Module seven: Open paired twining
It’s time to free yourself by working with soft and hard fibres, and enjoying the sculptural opportunities that open-paired twining can provide.
This is Harriet’s go-to technique for her bespoke lighting and one of her most popular live workshops.
Developed on a trip to Vietnam, Harriet walks you through the steps to create a beautiful open fish trap style basket before stepping you through the more traditional stake and strand technique – starting from the bottom up using soft fibres. You’re going to love this module!
-
Module eight: Dyeing plant fibres
You’ve bought and harvested materials, and now you’re looking for some variety in the colours you can work with. However, dye on plant fibres can be fleeting, or temporary.
In this module, Harriet shows you ways to enhance your weaving materials using powdered colour and the various natural dyes she has discovered that work best for plant materials. She’ll even share her secret mordant discovery that, when combined with a rusty vinegaroon recipe, instantly transforms the colour of your plant materials – just like magic.
-
Module nine: Sculptural mediums
It’s time to combine your new basketry skills and create a random woven pod-shaped vessel with a wire basket armature.
You’ll discover a way to rust dye your fabric, further enhance your sculptures with embroidery and stitch, and discover different surface treatments to harden and preserve your work to create contemporary wall hangings and 3D sculptures.
The possibilities are endless!

When Cathy Inman first discovered the course, something just clicked...
I completely dived in head first and just couldn't get enough of it.
One of the biggest shifts Cathy noticed after the course was her own confidence.
Since I've completed the course, I definitely feel okay with calling myself an artist, which I definitely would not have done before I started.
With the techniques she learned from Harriet, Cathy was able to refine her practice and elevate her work.
It's like my toolbox was pretty much empty when I started, and by the end of the course, I just had all these things that I could draw on and use them to make what I wanted to make.
Before, the baskets that I made were pretty rustic and rudimentary… now, my work is more refined, and it just looks a lot tidier and better finished.
When Sherri Denault discovered Harriet's artwork, she knew the course was her next step
Sometimes you're not sure what you're getting when you sign up for a course, but this one was well worth the investment. What I received will influence years of creating. The course gave me the tools to build that structure I was craving.
- Sherri Denault
Suzanne Martin hoped to learn something completely new
But she didn’t expect how deeply the course would connect her to nature, storytelling, and herself...
I felt such a connection to the earth.
Early on, Suzanne created a random weave as one of her first pieces that struck her as both structured and organic.
It was architectural and looked like nature. I felt such a connection to the earth and knew that even though I had a lot to learn, I was going to love this.

Course-specific FAQs
-
How is Form to Freedom different from a basketry workshop or local weaving class?
A local workshop or weaving class typically teaches you a specific form or technique over a day or weekend.
Form to Freedom is structured differently – it's the equivalent of half a dozen workshops with Harriet, but delivered in a sequence that builds from foundational technique through to sculptural expression, foraging practice, and developing a personal creative voice.
The goal isn't to have a finished basket. It's to give you a practice you can sustain and grow for years. Many students find they return to the course content repeatedly as their work evolves. -
I'm not based in Australia – will the foraging and natural materials approach work where I live?
Yes they still work, and this is one of the things students from outside Australia consistently find to be most valuable about the course.
Harriet's approach to foraging is principle-based, not plant-specific. She teaches you how to read your local landscape for usable materials – what to look for in terms of structure, flexibility, and durability – rather than prescribing a list of Australian species you'll need to source.
Students from the UK, Europe, North America, Scandinavia, and beyond have all found workable local equivalents for the materials Harriet uses, often discovering that their own landscape offers things Harriet's doesn't. Several students have shared that the foraging practice became one of the most personally resonant parts of the course precisely because it required them to pay attention to their own environment in a new way.
If you're concerned about a specific material or location, post the question in the community when you enrol – between Harriet, the moderators, and the global student pool, someone will almost certainly know what grows near you. -
Is this online basket weaving course suitable for experienced makers?
Form to Freedom is specifically designed for makers who already have some relationship with fibre, weaving, or basketry – and want to push their practice into more sculptural, expressive territory. The course covers ancient basketry and fish-trap style weaving techniques not just as foundational instruction but as creative tools, building toward contemporary fibre sculpture and a personal visual language in fibre.
Experienced weavers and basketry makers consistently report that the course takes their work somewhere they hadn't been able to get to on their own. -
What basketry and weaving techniques does Harriet Goodall teach in this course?
The course covers a range of traditional and contemporary basketry techniques including including open and closed twinning, coiling, looping, cordage and structural weaving approaches drawn from basket-making traditions. Harriet also teaches responsible foraging for natural materials, dyeing with plants and natural materials, and how to use these techniques as a foundation for three-dimensional fibre sculpture and woven lighting.
The emphasis throughout is on developing a personal approach to these techniques rather than replicating Harriet's specific forms. -
How does an online weaving course work for a tactile, hands-on practice like basketry?
This is one of the most common questions from experienced makers considering an online basketry course.
Take Two's cinematography is specifically designed to show the physical dimensions of fibre work — material tension, scale, texture, and the decision-making process in real time — rather than just demonstrating finished techniques.
Most students find they return to specific video sections multiple times as their practice develops, because there is more to observe with each pass. The self-paced format means you can pause, practice, and return in a way a live workshop doesn't allow. -
What is the student community like – will it work for someone with an established practice?
The Form to Freedom community includes makers at a wide range of experience levels, from those new to fibre, to practitioners with decades of making behind them. What they share is seriousness about their practice and a genuine interest in where it's going – which tends to make the conversation more interesting than most online art communities.
For experienced practitioners specifically, the community is often where the most unexpected learning happens – seeing how someone with a completely different material background approaches the same structural problem, or getting feedback from someone whose eye has been trained in a different tradition. Harriet is active in the community throughout the live period, which means the depth of conversation is anchored by someone operating at a professional level.

A note on value: this is a course students describe going back to again and again. Lauren said she finds herself returning to the modules "over and over" and that lifetime access "is not a bonus – it is a necessity." You're not paying for eight weeks. You're paying for a resource that will keep working for you for years.
If you're a beginner wondering whether you're ready – you are. This course was designed to meet you exactly where you are. -

Enrolment closes on 22 June 2026
-
Do I have to watch the videos at a set time or follow a schedule?
No fixed schedule, no live sessions you have to show up for. The course was built for people with full lives – you watch when you want, pause when you need to, and return to a module three times if that's what it takes.
The only time-sensitive element is Harriet’'s live interaction period, which runs from 12 June- 7 August 2026. During this window she's active in the private student community, responding personally to your work and questions. Outside that period, the community remains open and the course content is yours to access whenever you want – for life.
As Wendy put it: The freedom to take your time and disappear down your own rabbit hole is such a joy. -
How does interacting with Harriet actually work?
Between 12 June and 7 August 2026, Harriet is available in the private student community group on Facebook. This isn't a cursory presence – students consistently describe her feedback as detailed, personal, and genuinely engaged with their individual work.
Corina, a professional artist with 25–30 years of experience, wrote that she learned as much from reading Harriet's responses to other students' posts as she did from the course itself.
There are also two live Q&A sessions where you can submit questions in advance:
Live Q&A #1: 8 July 2026 Live Q&A #2: 29 July 2026
These are streamed via YouTube so you can watch even if you can't join live.
After 7 August, Harriet steps back from the group – but the community stays open, and you have all the course content for life. -
Why is the student community on Facebook? I’m not really a Facebook person.
We know – and you're not alone. Chris joined with the same hesitation and wrote: I didn't even use Facebook before!
Facebook is where we host the community because it's free, accessible across devices, and allows Harriet to respond directly to posted artwork with ease. We've thought carefully about making this work for people who aren't regular users: the Q&As are livestreamed via YouTube for anyone who can't access Facebook, and we send regular updates by email too. Multiple moderators keep the group safe and welcoming.
The community is highly recommended but not compulsory. That said, the students who engage with it consistently describe it as one of the most valuable parts of the course. -
I’m not very tech-savvy. Will I be able to manage an online course?
Yes. Our students regularly report – with visible relief – how straightforward the platform is to use. If you can watch a video on your phone or computer, you can do this.
And if anything doesn't work as expected, we're easy to reach. We're well known for our customer support – just email support@taketwoart.com and a real person will help you. -
Can I take this course on my phone or tablet?
Absolutely. The course is fully responsive and works across laptop, tablet, and phone. Switch between devices freely – all you need is an internet connection.
-
What currencies do you accept?
We've set up geolocation to display your local currency where possible and currently accept AUD, USD, GBP, EUR, CAD and NZD. If yours isn't listed, your bank will convert the charge automatically – you won't be blocked from enrolling.
-
What if I need support during my course?
Post in the student community group and someone will respond – whether that's Harriet during the live interaction period, a Take Two team member, or a fellow student. The group is active and genuinely supportive.
For technical questions, or if you'd prefer not to use the Facebook group, email support@taketwoart.com directly. -
Can I gift this course to someone?
Yes – and it's a beautiful gift. Email us at support@taketwoart.com with the details and we'll create a personalised digital voucher for you.
A final note from Harriet
Over the past six years teaching Form to Freedom, I’ve seen this course open literally thousands of eyes to using plants and weaving, and turn curious creatives into practicing fibre artists!
Form to Freedom students from right across the globe have taken their new skills and knowledge into their home. Many have become accomplished weavers and well-known artists in their own right.
I see them bravely sharing in the online community, gaining confidence over the period of the course then a year or so later see their following grow on Instagram or get a message sharing an exhibition opening of their own! It’s truly gratifying and a real privilege.
If you’re at all curious and keen to learn more than you could in any single workshop, I encourage you to join us. This course has something for everyone.
