What Tara's students say:
Don’t hesitate for a moment… just take the course… you’ll not regret it! It exceeded my expectations in every possible way and I’ve enjoyed every minute.
The course was so amazingly planned and structured that by following the prompts and demonstration one almost imperceptibly acquired the skills along the way whilst also discovering inspirational artists.
The content rich course can keep one absorbed for months, if not years. The material is well-presented, lots of information, and excellent support from the FATT team.
Anyone who is serious about studying gel plate printing should take this course. It is not inexpensive, but worth every penny.
We all get in artistic ruts, and Tara made an excellent case for planning and contemplating before the paint and brayer ever come into play.
Gel plate printing at home is excellent, however there comes a time when you want more than just collage papers.
- As you grow and develop your techniques, you want predictable and reliable results so you can turn your inspiration into tangible artwork.
- No longer satisfied with a muddy mess, and you long for translucent and multilayered prints without needing expensive printmaking equipment.
- You desire a clear and precise framework to make intentional colour and design decisions with everything you need at your fingertips to create artwork on one page!
Art & Design Through Gel Plate Printing will shift how you approach the gel plate. You’ll:
Learn gel plate printing as a designed process, not trial-and-error with clear structure, intention, and flow.
Build layered, sophisticated prints using composition, colour, texture, and rhythm, guided by Tara’s design-led approach.
Understand why techniques work, so you can adapt, refine, and trust your decisions across future projects.
Move beyond “happy accidents” and develop a repeatable visual language you can return to again and again.
Gain confidence translating ideas into finished work – whether for textiles, mixed media, or surface design.
Join a global community. Connect with like-minded artists, and show your work in a curated online exhibition.
I want to share with you how going to a gallery can be accessible. You don’t have to like everything you see, but the things you do enjoy and connect with can give you wonderful ideas. Then, you use that inspiration in your work and make something you’re proud of. I’ve shared my gallery visits on social media for years. Now, I have an opportunity to share what happens when I leave the gallery, return to my studio, unpick that process, and create.
- Tara Axford
Tara Axford took many years to embrace and develop a creative process that leveraged her precise designer’s mindset with her free-flowing artists’ imagination. Something that affords her the luxury to solve problems quicker whilst relaxing into the creative flow to almost effortlessly turn inspiration into artwork.
As an experienced mixed media artist and instructor, Tara knows many artists struggle with processing their ideas to utilise inspiration. As a creative director and designer, she understands the importance of learning to unpick often overwhelming amounts of visual stimulation to extract the essence of your findings, so you can confidently create well-composed and unique artwork.
Tara fell in love with the Gel Plate early in her Mixed Media career. She made it her mission to tame the plate and avoid disappointment.
