Learn to print, layer, and stitch your photos into expressive art with Wen Redmond
What Wen's students say:
I highly recommend this class to anyone wanting to learn more techniques. This was the best class I have ever taken online (or in person).
This course will give you so many creative ways to express your artistic vision. It will change the way you look at your photos and your art supplies as well. This course expands your vision and you become able to express yourself in ways you didn't think possible.
If you want to learn the best way to include your own photos into your art, and working with fabric and papers, this is the course for you. Wen is a great teacher and she is always there to cheer you on and answer your questions.
Wen was full of enthusiasm and offered us many techniques and ideas during the course. In particular, I really enjoyed developing my photography skills and learning to blend images and develop the idea of "sneaky layering". I have also become braver about using my Inkjet printer to be more creative.
This course opened up a new way to capture images and transform them into works of art. Making the substrates was a fun process... and everything came together nicely at the end of the course. Thanks Wen and the Fiber Arts team for allowing me to take this journey!
You love photography. You love fabric. But combining them... That's where it can get tricky.
It’s easy to feel stuck. Prints look flat, layers don’t flow, and digital tools seem overwhelming. But it doesn’t have to stay that way.
Technology can feel overwhelming – but in Wen’s world, it becomes a tool for play and possibility.
In Embrace the Journey, Wen invites you to discover her intuitive process. You’ll learn how to edit your own photographs, print them onto unique substrates including fabric and paper, and enrich them with layers of paint, collage, and stitch. You’ll experiment with handmade materials, discover unexpected effects, and allow chance to guide your creativity.
Most of all, you’ll learn to release the need for perfection – and truly embrace the journey, wherever it takes you.
In Embrace the Journey - Photos, Fabric and Mixed Media with Wen Redmond, you’ll:
Learn how to photograph, scan, and digitally play with your imagery (no fancy gear needed!)
Turn photos into fabric-ready prints and one-of-a-kind substrates using Wen’s signature techniques.
Combine texture, transparency, and layering to build your own mixed media pieces.
Experiment with materials like handmade paper, cheesecloth, collage and more.
Develop authentic artistry and bring joy back into your art practice!
Join a global community. Connect with like-minded artists, and show your work in a curated online exhibition.
The joy and satisfaction of seeing a piece evolve from a simple concept to a textured, layered masterpiece are indescribable.

What materials and supplies are required for this course?
We have prepared a minimum requirements list for your easy reference.
You will need access to a standard black and white inkjet printer and a product called inkAid to get the full benefits from this course.
Firstly - Let's chat about printers - with a message from Wen:
“Almost any printer will work for this class. What do I recommend for printers for my workshop? In a pinch, I'd go for the all-in-one workforce series. "All in ones" or "small in one" series offer scanners and are simple to use. They're not too heavy or expensive to purchase. Do look around for the best deals!
You want an L feed so that you can print stiffer substrates. The feed is the pathway the substrate takes through the printer. Stay away from U feeds if you can.”
Secondly – let's chat about inkAID...
inkAID is a liquid-type coating applied to porous and non-porous surfaces that allows you to print on virtually any surface that will feed through your printer. Wen has been using this product for many years, and it is the only one on the market. Therefore, you can appreciate this is a specialised material. Throughout the course, Wen refers to inkAID pre-coat and receptive coatings products as ‘digital grounds’.
To help invest in this essential and specialty product, the team at inkAID has offered a 10% discount* on the products that Wen uses during this course to enrolled students who purchase through their website; your unique discount code will be given to you upon enrolment.

Do I have to attend this course at a specific time?
Not at all. This course was created for creatives who want to watch in their own time, hit pause, re-watch, take a break, and then return for more!
While you will receive live support for up to eight weeks of the course, there is no set schedule to complete this course. Plus, you’ll have all the material for life!
Before the pandemic I could not have imagined an online art course but now I am a complete convert. I think the freedom to take your time and disappear down your own rabbit hole is such a joy!
