Create vessels that hold space, using a variety of sculptural materials and techniques

Has your basketry become a functional craft, instead of sculptural art?

Weekend workshops teach you a form. YouTube tutorials teach you a technique. Neither shows you how to develop a personal visual language in fibre, or how to move from well-crafted to art.

Form to Freedom was built for exactly this.

Along the way, you'll learn the techniques behind Harriet's unique sculptural objects and woven lighting, the same ethical practice she's sustained as a professional artist for over 16 years.

This course is the equivalent of six live workshops. Ready to push your work into another dimension?

Before this course, I made baskets. This course turned me into a creative basketmaker. I now have the foundation to move forward with a creative practice.

What students say about this course:

Form to Freedom played a pivotal role in unveiling my visual language by providing a structured yet liberating approach to artistic expression. The course empowered me to explore diverse forms and techniques, encouraging experimentation and pushing boundaries.
Iaki V.
This course has made an exponential difference to my work. In addition to teaching the techniques, each module showcases some of the endless possibilities of how they could be used. Although I already knew most of the techniques, I was having difficulty expanding on that knowledge. I am now producing finished work that I am proud of.
Anne-Marie C.
I have been a fibre artist/weaver for more than 30 years but have learnt so many new skills and gained additional fascinating and inspiring knowledge from this course. It's the best online content I have found in a long time.
Lisa W.
The Form to Freedom course is transformative. It has reinvigorated my creative process by opening up ideas and possibilities whilst adding many new tools to my toolbox. I can highly recommend this invaluable resource, no matter the level of experience. With lifetime access, this is a course that keeps on giving.
Anna B.
I started out with minimal knowledge of basketry, plants and foraging – and no idea where the course would lead me. Three months on, I'm in love with looping, twining and coiling; I'm surrounded by cordage, bunches of leaves and grasses; I've moved into a little studio space. Every walk presents new inspiration and I see shapes and forms all around me that I didn't see before.
Sheralyn B.
I was a total beginner when I started this program. Yet weaving spoke to me in a way that no other form of creativity has. Now 4 years on, I have my own studio filled with forage and feathers and found objects. Most of my pieces are sculptural and experimental. For the first time in my life, I now think of myself as an artist.

Harriet Goodall artist

Harriet Goodall is one of Australia’s most loved fibre artists. Her signature online course Form to Freedom has been created to expand what traditional basketry can be.

Inside her private studio, Harriet promises to free your mind to the endless sculptural possibilities that ancient weaving techniques provide when combined with contemporary basketry.

The trips I make foraging are some of my happiest moments – I feel like I’m on a treasure hunt. Like I am doing something worthwhile, ethical, environmentally friendly and culturally rich.

- HARRIET GOODALL

What students say about Harriet as a tutor:

Harriet's style of teaching encourages you to go past the instructions and seek your own voice. She is a great teacher and so generous with her knowledge. I have taken other weaving and basketry workshops, but this course was by far the best one. Harriet was so encouraging and her instructions were not only clear but she included instructions for a left-handed person. This is rare. You will not be disappointed.
Maris C.
I absolutely loved every aspect of this course! From the very professional technical presentation to the very well delivered, easy to comprehend and detailed teachings. Harriet was most generous with sharing her knowledge and experience and went way beyond what was required. Many new doors have opened for me and I'm very grateful for it.
Renata Grec G.
This course was my first experience with weaving. Harriet’s spirituality and passion nurtures all learning styles and encourages any level of weaving. Her calm demeanor, and genuine desire to share her expertise expanded my use of art for self-healing. If you are ready to embark on a creatively spiritual journey, you don’t have to leave the comfort of your own home, sign up for Form to Freedom!
Julie N.
This course has given me a deeper understanding of the incredible beauty and creativity of nature and its role as a universal teacher. Harriet's clear, concise lessons and her understanding of ancient methods of weaving and respect for the earth are a gift to all her students. I recommend this course to everyone!
Claire M.
I enjoyed every minute of the course, I felt as though I was in the studio with Harriet! It was my first online course and I was amazed by the quality of the film work (un grand bravo to the FATT team!). I really appreciated that I could do the course at my own pace and lifetime access is highly valuable!
Isabelle D.
Harriet is a warm and generous teacher and I felt supported – like every step was progress. Her ongoing involvement in the Facebook group, long after her commitment was complete, highlights this further. And she knows her stuff and produces inspiring pieces.

Student stories from Harriet’s course

Cathy Art

When Cathy Inman first discovered the course, something just clicked...

I completely dived in head first and just couldn't get enough of it.

One of the biggest shifts Cathy noticed after the course was her own confidence.

Since I've completed the course, I definitely feel okay with calling myself an artist, which I definitely would not have done before I started.

With the techniques she learned from Harriet, Cathy was able to refine her practice and elevate her work.

It's like my toolbox was pretty much empty when I started, and by the end of the course, I just had all these things that I could draw on and use them to make what I wanted to make.

Before, the baskets that I made were pretty rustic and rudimentary… now, my work is more refined, and it just looks a lot tidier and better finished.

When Sherri Denault discovered Harriet's artwork, she knew the course was her next step

Sometimes you're not sure what you're getting when you sign up for a course, but this one was well worth the investment. What I received will influence years of creating. The course gave me the tools to build that structure I was craving.

- Sherri Denault

Longevity and movement by Suzanne Martin

Suzanne Martin hoped to learn something completely new

But she didn’t expect how deeply the course would connect her to nature, storytelling, and herself...

I felt such a connection to the earth.

Early on, Suzanne created a random weave as one of her first pieces that struck her as both structured and organic.

It was architectural and looked like nature. I felt such a connection to the earth and knew that even though I had a lot to learn, I was going to love this.

A final note from Harriet

Over the past six years teaching Form to Freedom, I’ve seen this course open literally thousands of eyes to using plants and weaving, and turn curious creatives into practicing fibre artists!

Form to Freedom students from right across the globe have taken their new skills and knowledge into their home. Many have become accomplished weavers and well-known artists in their own right.
I see them bravely sharing in the online community, gaining confidence over the period of the course then a year or so later see their following grow on Instagram or get a message sharing an exhibition opening of their own! It’s truly gratifying and a real privilege.

If you’re at all curious and keen to learn more than you could in any single workshop, I encourage you to join us. This course has something for everyone.
