What Sally's students say:
This course has changed my artistic life forever.
I have never enjoyed a course more than this.
The quality and attention to detail were outstanding – worth every penny.
My commitment to my art is now serious again, and I’ve even started writing my PhD proposal.
If you’re looking for a course that adds depth and meaning to your work, you’ve found it!
Discover how to transform inspiration, research, and process into a cohesive body of work that tells your story.
Endless inspiration?
Images, textures, marks, memories, but no clear way to connect them.
Your work feels fragmented, your ideas half-formed, and you’re searching for that thread that ties it all together.
Visual Narratives is your bridge from inspiration to resolution.
Through guided experimentation in photography, printmaking, and mixed media, artist and educator Sally Tyrie shows you how to build structure and sequence into your creative process.
You’ll learn to develop your research, translate imagery into abstraction, and shape your ideas into a cohesive, deeply personal body of work. One that tells your story with confidence and coherence.
From inspiration to a resolved body of work. What you'll learn in Visual Narratives:
Sophistication and meaning.
Hone the ability to identify and research places and subjects that hold personal meaning.
A repeatable method.
Field research → studio exploration → resolution. A clear path you can reuse.
Printmaking without a press. Collagraphs, photo-litho transfers and acetate methods with simple, accessible tools.
Mixed-media as language. Layering, mending, stitching and found materials used with intention (not guesswork).
An intuitive, process-led rhythm. Learn to balance control with spontaneity so discovery and experimentation become part of your making.
A cohesive series. Create a cohesive body of work or a hand-bound artist book that feels meaningful and deeply connected to your artistic vision.
Through curiosity and chance, we uncover what truly belongs to us, a way of seeing and creating that no one else can replicate.
- Sally Tyrie
Approaches often involve deconstructing and assembling work using collage methods. In particular juxtaposing multilayered prints and drawings with machine or hand stitch as a way to examine, reinterpret and reimagine. Sally is drawn to techniques that allow ‘chance’ and ‘accident’ to adopt a more painterly and expressive approach.
Her method of working usually involves some form of initial research and investigation. For instance repeated visits to a location or historical research in a subject. It is important to Sally that visual and historical research underpin and inform the group of work. The investigative journey is as much a part of the work as the end result.
Sally is especially drawn to subjects with historical and environmental interest and looks forward to sharing her research and investigative approach to mixed media printmaking with you.
