You can begin when the timing feels right - immediately, in a few weeks, or much later. While Donna will be actively engaging in the student community during the first eight weeks, the course content is always available to return to.

Beginners often find the course freeing and confidence-building enjoying learning new techniques and processes. More experienced artists value the focus on meaning, intention, and personal direction.

Although techniques are covered, this isn’t a step-by-step technical course. It’s best suited to artists who are open to reflection and exploration, regardless of experience level.

Yes - Donna teaches a wide range of practical techniques, and you’ll see them demonstrated throughout the course.

You’ll learn how to:

• work with Japanese washi papers
• hand-paint your own collage papers
• create pressed botanical prints, tea-bag papers, fabric papers, and momigami
• compose a collage using principles of design and composition
• bring multiple papers together with intention, rather than overwhelm

Donna also teaches:

• elements and principles of design
• how to establish a focal point
• how to simplify compositions
• how to work in series once you’ve identified meaningful content

What Donna doesn’t do is demonstrate a finished artwork for you to copy.

Instead, she shows you how and why decisions are made, so you can apply the techniques to your own materials, experiences, and ideas. This approach gives you the tools and confidence to develop work that’s personal and recognisable as your own - rather than a version of someone else’s style.

In short: this course is hands-on and visually demonstrated, while remaining focused on helping you find your own voice.
