Sink into the rhythm of needle and thread to create incredible mixed media embroidery.

Surrounded by beautiful threads and fabrics...
... and a mountain of unfinished projects?

We've all been there.

Quiet the noise and return to the joy of making as you learn Fleur's intuitive process. Through linen, stitching, and sometimes even moulding clay, Fleur will help you move beyond the 'pretty' and the 'flat'.

One student said it best: her creative world "shifted on its axis”.

Yours might too.

The moment I chose to pick up a needle and thread, I felt the women of past generations behind me, giving me everything I needed.

– FLEUR WOODS

Slow down, stitch, and create the extraordinary with Joyful Embroidery.

Fleur taught me to let go of the need to know the ending before beginning. This has been a true joy, evolving stitch by stitch, texture by texture, and layer by layer. I found freedom – enjoying each step along the way.

What Fleur’s students say about Joyful Embroidery:

I was struggling to do any sort of embroidery – everything I saw was too precise with patterns that stifled my creativity. My world has exploded with vibrant and colourful palettes, textures and fibres. I have been given the skills to explore and develop creations on my own. My stitching now 'makes my day, every day'.
Joanne A.
I am loving every second. I usually work mainly in paint and bead embroidery, so I am using this course to help me with my fabric collage and embroidery. I love raised surfaces so using the clay work is perfect, I am just over the moon, my joy is sparked.
Michelle M.
The course has helped me to trust in my unique creative voice again. It has pushed and challenged me to create beyond a two-dimensional level and accept and enjoy the beauty of being a beginner. Come along with an open mind and an open heart. Not only will Fleur teach you some wonderful fundamental embroidery skills, but she will also guide you to connect, or in my case reconnect, with your creative joy.
Crissie R.
So much awareness of my truth as an artist has happened over the past week. It was actually the colour pallet that made the penny drop. I love bright colours and it made me realise that I use Australian native flowers in my floristry, my sculpture and I even travelled to WA earlier this year to see wild flowers, so why were they not the feature of my work here? This brings me JOY.
Sue B.
Joyful Embroidery really helped to increase my sense of individual identity, self-expression, creativity, and self-confidence. I got a real kick out of mixing different textiles, fibres and textures.
Lucy D.
I finished my exhibition piece. Such a great feeling and so grateful for Fleur Woods Joyful Embroidery for showing me what I had inside me and all the other great students for their inspiring works of art. My journey has just begun.
Cherie K.

Meet your tutor

Embroidery Artist Fleur Woods 2

Fleur Woods is a self-taught contemporary embroidery artist from New Zealand's Upper Moutere Valley, who’s been a globally successful tutor for eight years.

She’s a self-described bowerbird – gathering what catches her eye, and deciding what it's for later. It’s that instinct that shapes how she teaches: paint before you plan, build on what you've made, and create gorgeous, rich stitching.

A geeky lover of details, she’s happiest in the layering stage of her work, when a piece finally comes together. For her, embroidery is where “you make the rules."

I'm just such a bowerbird that I literally can't not love all the things.

What students say about Fleur Woods as a tutor

Fleur is an amazing teacher. Calm, inspiring, generous and down to earth. I loved trying all her techniques and the gentle way she encourages everyone to try new things and work through the bumpy bits of the creative process to get to the gold at the end.
Melanie S.
Prior to the course, I was quite new to embroidery. Fleur is such a delight and her teaching style is encouraging and easy to understand. When she made the comment "You make the rules", I think my creative world shifted on its axis! This is a course for those who love colour, texture and thread/yarn.
Helen L.
The course is a treasure. It continues to reveal so many nuggets of joy and knowledge, long after the 8 weeks where Fleur was present. You simply don't let such a treasure slip through your fingers.
Kay H.
The course is great. Fleur is an amazing, patient teacher who makes you feel very welcome – like the two of you are spending an afternoon stitching and chatting together.
Marie B.
I decided to watch all the videos first while I spend time practicing the stitches and seeing what direction I can take them myself… all because of the warm encouragement from Fleur. I often feel like she's right here in person sharing her knowledge with me.
Kim S.
I am LOVING Fleur and the way she teaches. It is opening up more of my creativity in a way I have ALWAYS wanted to merge my painting with my textiles. Thank you!
Sheila S.
I had a desire to create and express myself in art and textiles, but not the ability to take an idea and progress it. After the course I now know how to start, explore, challenge myself, and come to a pleasing conclusion. The course will make you smile and want to start filling your own sketchbooks.
Alex H.

A note from Fleur

You’ll pick up a needle, follow your curiosity, and unlock a creative magic that’s entirely your own.

At the heart of Joyful Embroidery is the simple, soulful act of stitching – a way to slow down, connect, and honour the creative spirit within you.

It’s my wish that by honouring our creativity, we give others permission to explore theirs more openly.

I hope you’ll join me.
